We want to thank our members and the community for allowing us to serve you. We know our duties to the community go beyond running a successful credit union. It’s important for us to be a community beacon, and to provide opportunities for the whole community. When we get involved with the community, it’s not any one person that stands alone. Collectively as a group we support each other, and influence positive interactions within the community.
We are proud of what we accomplished, and you should be too. As we look forward with excitement, we want to showcase the programs we support. These community programs reflect the character of our Board of Directors, our staff and our members, and we hope you are as proud of these initiatives as we are. We could not have made this impact without you!
Legacy Scholarships
We sponsor a $2,000 Legacy Scholarship at each of the three Walled Lake High Schools. The Legacy Scholarship program seeks students with different talents and study goals. In total, there are currently 59 Legacy Scholarships ranging from $250 - $2500. If you have a high school senior looking for ways to pay for college, have them check out the Legacy Scholarships by clicking here!
Foundation for Excellence
We are a long time supporter of the Foundation for Excellence. They provide the school district with a lot of valuable resources, such as teacher development and classroom supplies. Often times, teachers have to pay out of pocket for supplies and development, and FFE steps in when they can to minimize those burdens. This year we were able to make over $4,000 in donations to the Foundation for Excellence. We sponsored the Tuition Expedition raffle and had a staff member join their Board of Trustees.
Warriors for Warriors Pink Out
We joined the Pink Out for the first time in 2021. We participated again in 2022 and 2023, and plan to continue supporting this group in the future. We make donations to Warriors for Warriors, joined the planning committee, and volunteered at the event. This event is a marquee fundraiser in the area, cancer touches nearly everyone’s life at some point, and we plan to do everything we can to support this event in the future.
WLCSD Therapy Dog Program
We currently sponsor three therapy dogs in the Walled Lake Consolidated School District. As the program expands we will continue to support this program. The therapy dogs teach students the value of hard work, discipline, compassion and love, and those are values we have at WLSFCU. These furry friends make our community a better place, and we have heard directly from our members how much they appreciate this program.
Hospitality House Food Pantry
This year, we were able to make $2,700 in donations to the Hospitality House Food Pantry. We also sponsored the Outrun Hunger 5K that raised even more money for the Hospitality House Food Pantry and the Open Door Outreach Center.
Open Door Outreach Center
We were able to donate over $2,000 to the Open Door Outreach Center. We also volunteered to help sort food and stock shelves after the Postal Food Drive. Open Door Outreach serves as a food pantry and thrift store, as well as provide additional resources for people in need.
Lakes Area Youth Assistance
We were able to donate over $2,000 to the Lakes Area Youth Assistance. Lakes Area Youth Assistance is a non-profit that offers professional counseling services, and conducts programs for youth and their families who live within the Walled Lake School District.
Military Families United of Michigan
We helped collect supplies at our office to send care packages to deployed US troops. We were able to collect nearly five ten gallon bags full of items.
Police and Fire Visits
We made several visits to our local police and fire stations to drop of goodies to let them know we appreciate everything they do to keep the community safe. We dropped off popcorn for National Popcorn Day, delievered Valentine's Day lunches, and made paczki deliveries.
Other Groups We Supported
We also made donations to several local groups, including the Oakland Country Fraternal Order of Police, Passion for Life 5K, Walled Lake Western Lacrosse uniforms, Wolverine Lake Easter Egg Hunt, and Taste of the Lakes.
If you work with local charities and are looking for volunteer help we are happy to join up with your group.
